Exit cue

A mental movement used to shift attention away from the physical body once the transition state is established.

Also known as: exit method, separation technique

What it means in practice

Common cues include rolling sideways, sitting up, floating or reaching toward an imagined point. The movement is imagined rather than performed with physical muscles.

An exit cue is most useful after physical sensation has faded. Using it too early usually increases bodily tension.
