Hypnagogia

The transitional state between wakefulness and sleep, often involving brief imagery, sounds, thoughts or bodily sensations.

Also known as: sleep-onset imagery, hypnagogic state

What it means in practice

Hypnagogic phenomena are common and are not, by themselves, evidence of astral projection. They do signal that normal waking attention is giving way to sleep.

Learning to observe this state without becoming alert or losing awareness is useful in many projection methods.
