Indirect method

An exit attempt made immediately after waking, before moving or becoming fully alert.

Also known as: deferred method, upon-awakening method

What it means in practice

The practitioner notices the awakening, remains still and tries a simple imagined movement or sensory cue. The method uses a transition that sleep has already created rather than relaxing from full wakefulness.
